<p>Oi, eu sou Jeremy Goldkorn, transmitindo a reportagem do centro de Pequim, perto do Segundo Distrito da Capital...</p>
<p>Hi, I’m Jeremy Goldkorn, reporting to you on Danwei from downtown Beijing, not too far away from the Second Embassy District of the capital...</p>
<p>... e a Sanlitun Bar Street. Os chineses têm um ditado: “Enquanto o velho não sair, o novo não irá entrar”.</p>
<p>...and Sanlitun Bar Street. The Chinese have a saying, [speaking Chinese] which means, “If the old doesn’t go, the new won’t come.” </p>
<p>Como podem ver pelo terreno baldio atrás de mim, que era um conjunto residencial de apartamentos, o velho está saindo bem rapidamente.</p>
<p>And as you can see from the wasteland behind me which used to be residential apartment housing, the old is going very, very rapidly. </p>
<p>Neste breve programa, vamos ver alguns dos mega-projetos atualmente sendo construídos para traçar o panorama de Pequim em 2008.</p>
<p>In this short program, we’re going to be looking at some of the mega-projects currently being constructed that are going to define Beijing’s skyline in 2008.</p>
<p>Estou aqui no topo de um prédio abandonado na East Third Road de Pequim, um pouco ao norte do Changan Boulevard...</p>
<p>I’m standing here on top of an abandoned building on Beijing’s Third-East Third Ring Road, just a little bit north of Ch’ang-an Boulevard...</p>
<p>... no coração do que se chama de Centro Comercial.</p>
<p>...in the heart of what is called the CBD or Central Business District. </p>
<p>Atrás de mim vocês podem ver o canteiro de obras que em breve começará a tomar forma como a CCTV...</p>
<p>Behind me, you can see a construction site which will soon start taking shape as China’s CCTV...</p>
<p>A nova e imponente torre da TV Central China, com base num projeto de Rem Koolhaas.</p>
<p>China Central Television’s new, massive tower based on a design done by Rem Koolhaas. </p>
<p>A torre será composta de dois prédios – um arco imponente, assimétrico, e uma torre isolada, que será possível ver através do arco.</p>
<p>The tower will consist of two buildings – one massive, asymmetrical arch, and a free-standing tower, which you’ll be able to see through the arch. </p>
<p>Conseguimos contar mais de 400 operários de construção com capacetes amarelos preparando as fundações deste...</p>
<p>We’ve been able to count more than 400 yellow-hatted construction workers laying the foundations of this...</p>
<p>... projeto que alguns consideram “magnífico” e outros chamam de “abominável”, que deixará uma marca bem visível no panorama de Pequim.</p>
<p>...some people call “magnificent,” some people call “abominable,” project, which is going to leave an incredible mark on Beijing’s skyline. </p>
<p>No lado da cidade oposto à CCTV, as instalações olímpicas começam a tomar forma.</p>
<p>On the other side of town from the CCTV Building, the Olympic facilities are starting to take shape. </p>
<p>Projetado pela firma suíça de arquitetura Herzog & de Meuron, o estádio olímpico foi apelidado de “ninho do pássaro”...</p>
<p>Designed by Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron, the Olympic stadium is nicknamed “The Bird’s Nest”... </p>
<p>... e de fato, seu projeto foi inspirado pela estrutura de gravetos que compõe um ninho.</p>
<p>...and indeed, its design is inspired by the intricate twig structure that makes up a nest. </p>
<p>O projeto da construção propicia ventilação natural, supostamente tornando-o um dos maiores edifícios ecológicos do mundo.</p>
<p>The building’s design allows for natural ventilation, supposedly making it one of the world’s largest eco-friendly buildings. </p>
<p>Ao lado dele, os operários estão começando a aplicar os painéis exclusivos que formarão o exterior do Centro Nacional de Natação...</p>
<p>Right next to it, workers are already starting to apply the distinctive panels that will make up the exterior of the National Swimming Center...</p>

<p>...dubbed “The Water Cube.” The Water Cube was designed by Australian architectural firm PTW. </p>

<p>... e foram projetados para suportar terremotos, bem como isolar o prédio das temperaturas extremas de Pequim.</p>
<p>...and are designed to withstand earthquakes as well as insulate the building from Beijing’s extreme climates.</p>
<p>Indo para o sul pelo Changan Boulevard, logo a oeste da Tiananmen Square, no coração de Pequim...</p>
<p>Moving south to Ch’ang-an Boulevard, just west of Tiananmen Square in the heart of Beijing...</p>
<p>... o Novo Teatro Nacional, projetado por Paul Andreu, está quase concluído.</p>
<p>...the New National Theater, designed by Paul Andreu, is nearing completion. </p>
<p>Quando ficar pronto, a estrutura colossal de titânio e vidro parecerá flutuar sobre um lago artificial.</p>
<p>When it’s finished, the gargantuan titanium-and-glass structure will appear to be floating on a man-made lake. </p>
<p>À noite, a casca translúcida deste ovo futurista permitirá às pessoas que passarem pelo Changan Boulevard ver um pouco do que acontece lá dentro.</p>
<p>At night, the translucent skin of this futuristic egg will allow people driving by on Ch’ang-an Boulevard to see some of the action going on inside. </p>
<p>Nem todos gostam do modo como Pequim está se desenvolvendo. Há pessoas com objeções à destruição do feng shui da cidade velha.</p>
<p>Not everybody likes the way Beijing is developing. There are people who object to the disruption of the old city’s feng shui.</p>
<p>Outros dizem que projetos como o edifício da CCTV têm custo exagerado...</p>
<p>Others say that projects such as the CCTV Building cost way too much money...</p>
<p>... e incompatível com um país onde a maioria da população continua pobre.</p>
<p>...and are inappropriate for a country where the majority of the population are so poor.</p>
<p>Também há problemas sociais quando os moradores de prédios como este onde eu estou...</p>
<p>There are also social problems caused when residents of buildings, such as the one I’m standing on...</p>
<p>... são deslocados para fora da cidade, para dar lugar a novas incorporações.</p>
<p>...get moved out of the city to make way for the new developments. </p>
<p>Todavia, goste ou não das novas construções, a certeza é que o panorama de Pequim...</p>
<p>But whether you like the new developments or not, what is certain is that Beijing’s skyline...</p>
<p>... em breve se parecerá com algo tirado do filme “Blade Runner”.</p>
